About

The goal of Shakopee Snapshots is to share snapshots and stories of Shakopee, both past and present.

Shakopee Snapshots was an idea devised in March 2020, shortly after the pandemic began, following a walk down the Minnesota River trail to show my mom where the Schroeder Lime Kiln was located. We took many photos of the kiln and the Schroeder property, which the City of Shakopee had bought to turn into a recreation area. I have yet to post those photos.

In December 2020, despite not having much time to put thought into the design of the Shakopee Snapshots website, the site went live about the time of the St. Mark’s School demolition.

This site soon expanded to include an online version of the Remember When column that I had submitted weekly to the Shakopee Valley News.

We also intend to add additional features over time.
